Overview
The Education Bridge, Inc. curriculum department employs curriculum writers who are responsible for designing, editing, and publishing educational products for K-12 and postsecondary students. The curriculum writers are divided into five different content teams: language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and allied health.
Each content team edits product material using the style guide that best fits the needs of the team. The allied health team is the only team currently using the AMA Manual of Style and the only team with experience working on allied health projects.
The curriculum department is cross-training curriculum writers so that all writers will be equipped to work on each content team. This training module will introduce the AMA Manual of Style to writers and equip them to edit allied health product materials using this style guide.
Target Audiences and Learner Characteristics
The training module is designed for two different target audiences. The module begins with a diagnostic pretest that will help determine learners’ previous knowledge of style manuals. Learners who receive between 0 and 20 points on the pretest will take the basic training, which covers the fundamentals of editing with style manuals and the specific features of the AMA Style Manual. Learners who receive between 21 and 40 points on the pretest will take the advanced training, which leverages the learners’ existing knowledge of style manuals to focus solely on features of the AMA Style Manual.
The primary audience is curriculum writers who are currently employed in another content team besides allied health. These learners are:
· adult learners who have earned at minimum a bachelor’s degree
· familiar with the established departmental processes of copy editing product materials
· experienced with using style manuals other than AMA Manual of Style to perform copy edits
· bringing prior knowledge of another subject area (e.g., language arts, math, science, social studies)
The secondary audience is new employees who are hired to work directly with allied health products. These learners are:
· adult learners who have earned at minimum a bachelor’s degree
· undergoing training on departmental processes of copy editing product materials simultaneously with this training
· familiar to some extent with style manuals based on previous experiences with college writing
· bringing content expertise in the area of allied health
Delivery Method
The training module will be available entirely online, with scores and progress reported directly to the learner and the allied health team manager. Learners may progress through the module at a self-directed pace. The module will be utilized at various times throughout the fiscal year, as training and hiring needs change.
